Background:
The district of Keonjhar is highly rich in mineral
resources and about 30% of its total area
is covered with dense forests. In spite of immense mineral and forest
wealth, Keonjhar
is still economically backward due to its tribal population. The two main tribes
in this
area are Juangs and the Bhuyans. There is no infrastructure in place for
providing education
or vocational training to for this tribal population. |

Plan Detail:
Setting up an adult literacy and Vocational Training
Center for the upliftment and continuous
improvement of the skill base in economically backward villages. This
project will provide
the basic infrastructure to improve the socio economic condition of tribal
population and
continuous development of skill base for the marginal workers.
The
beneficiaries will be nearly 500 rural villages in Keonjhar district,
Orissa
The benefits to the villagers include:
- Adult literacy program for both males and females
- Construct Kalyan Mandap that carters the need of
the community
- Organize
general health camps for tribal population
- Provide after school vocational training for youth
and adults
- Foster sense of friendship and unity in the
community
Funds needed for
acquiring the land and registering it have already been raised.
NGOs:
In India, Keonjhar Vaisya Samaj will be undertaking the actual
setting up of the center.

Societies Act
XXI (Registration No: KJR 4105-115/2000-2001)
