Summary of VIDE's response

Concert For Tsunami Relief

Volunteers for India Development and Empowerment launched a fund drive to provide for immediate relief and long-term rehabilitation immediately after the Tsunami waves hit India.

We contacted our NGO partner SEEDS immediately to provide for relief in Port Blair, Andaman.  Two relief camps have been operational since day one of the disaster and one additional relief camp has been made operational since then.  Please see our Andaman Relief effort for more details.

We also are in close touch with another NGO partner in Tamilnadu, the coastal state in Southern India that also bore the brunt of the killer waves.  Our partner NGO in Tamilnadu, Indian Medical Association ( Tiruvarur Chapter ) was one of the first responders to the hard-hit Nagapattinam district.  IMA immediately swung into action and started clearing dead bodies and setting up relief and medical camps.  VIDE is committed to providing support for short-term relief and long-term rehabilitation in Nagapattinam district of Tamilnadu.
